Video Chat Series

In late 2019, Bishop Robert Brennan appointed Father William Hahn as vocations director for the Diocese of Columbus. After a transition period that began in early 2020, Father Hahn took over the role in July.

Not long after taking over as Vocations Director, Father Hahn sat down for a conversation about his personal discernment journey, and how he hopes to help others answer God’s call.  He says, “When you are discerning, be open to how God is speaking to you. God has a unique and exciting pathway for you that’s going to be an adventure that only you can walk upon.“

The conversation is broken into a 6-part Video Chat Series:

Through vocations, God calls us to build up society in a manner that reflects His love. By sharing his inspiration discernment story, Father Hahn hopes to provide guidance for those discerning their own vocation.

“It’s an exciting time to become a priest over the next few years. Young Catholics are becoming more intentional, more fervent,” Father Hahn points out. “We are entering into a time that is going to be more in accord with what the heart desires for those discerning a vocation in the priesthood. That desire to feed and nourish the spiritual life of the people.”

A prayer for vocations from Pope Francis:

LORD of the Harvest,
BLESS young people with the gift of courage to respond to your call.
Open their hearts to great ideals, to great things.
INSPIRE all of your disciples to mutual love and giving—
for vocations blossom in the
good soil of faithful people.
INSTILL those in religious life, parish
ministries, and families with the confidence
and grace to invite others to embrace
the bold and noble path of a life
consecrated to you.
UNITE us to Jesus through prayer and sacrament,
so that we may cooperate
with you in building your reign of mercy
and truth, of justice and peace.

As the Diocese of Columbus reorients itself towards evangelization, the Diocese is beginning to invest more time and resources into a diocesan-wide social media presence.  As this is now beginning to grow, the Vocations Office will no longer need to carry the message in social media as the Vocations Office.  The new Social Media Department of the Diocese will have the mission of spreading the Gospel through social media and will be the avenue by which the Vocations Office works to promote a culture of vocations.  As the Vocations Office we will still continue our information website,  This site will be going through an exciting transformation over the next several months as the Diocese moves to a new platform.  We will also begin running our vocations-oriented messages, event announcements, and news through the diocesan social media platform.  Because of this, Face Forward’s time will be coming to a close at the end of this month.  We thank all of those who have been a part of this important work in the life of the local Church. We look forward with excitement to the spread of the Gospel and the cultivation of a culture of vocations as we enter this new phase in the life of the Diocese of Columbus.  Please continue to follow along with us through our site and through the Diocese of Columbus Social Media platform.

In Christ,
Fr. William Hahn
