This time of year, it seems as if summer has flown by and the busy-ness of back-to-school can feel overwhelming. And while these feelings make it easy to forget to stop and “pause” — this is the very time that a few moments of reflection can help you the most.
While summer offered an opportunity for relaxation and spiritual renewal, the thought of returning to a hectic school schedule can be daunting. But “pausing” and taking time for reflection and prayer can help to provide some balance during this time of year. Initiating a daily prayer helps to establish a personal relationship with Jesus.
Think of it as a prayer from the heart, where we speak to God as one friend to another. Just as you would at your locker, in the lunchroom, or on the practice field. Many of us just are not comfortable with daily pauses and prayer, but we have to overcome these reservations and do what Jesus commanded us to: “pray always.”
Back to School Prayer
God of wisdom and might,
we praise you for the wonder of our being,
for mind, body and spirit.
Be with our children as they begin
a new school year.
Bless them and their teachers and staff.
Give the strength and grace as their bodies grow;
wisdom and knowledge to their minds
as they search for understanding;
and peace and zeal to their hearts.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.
