Lent has two purposes to prepare catechumens and the faithful to celebrate the Paschal Mystery.  The catechumens are being prepared for the Sacraments of Initiation and the faithful are being more attentive to the Word of God, prayer and penance for their renewal of Baptismal Promises.

Lent starts with Ash Wednesday and ends with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Ash Wednesday.  Good Friday and Holy Saturday are days of fast and abstinence.  As Catholics we are obligated to confess our sins at least once a year, (the 2nd Precept of the Church #2042 CCC).  Lent is an excellent opportunity to exam our conscience and amend our lives by God’s Grace in the Sacrament of Penance.
This season is a reminder of how Jesus prepared Himself for His mission to preach the Gospel and be crucified and resurrect for us.  Let us make sure that prepare ourselves to support Jesus in His work by imitating Him.
