School: Saint Francis DeSales High School
Parish: St. Peter’s Church
Ever since I became a member of St.Peters Church, I have put my time into helping the children of the parish learn about the Scriptures read during mass. I read the Gospel to the children, ask them questions and, explain the reading to help them better understand what they heard. I always make sure the children leave the room knowing the Gospel reading very well.
The service I have performed is reading God’s word to others. Thanks to my involvement, I have been able to share God’s word with others. I believe it is important to share and inform younger children about the faith and what their faith is based from. It brings joy to me when the children are enthralled and engaged when hearing and learning about the Gospel reading.
The Importance of Service:
“It’s not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.” -Mother Teresa. Mother Teresa through her actions and words, embodied for the world what It means to serve. Never did she seek any type of reward for herself and was happy doing the work she did. Her services, truly helped build the Kingdom of God and this is how service should be. By doing good works of service and giving back to the community, we are doing our duty as Catholics. Therefore, service and giving back to the community are very important. When we help one other and do a service, we are doing the job God gave to us. We are here to help nurture and take care of what was entrusted to us by God. At times, many people do forget that we need to help one another. When we conduct services in the community, we are demonstrating to others and reminding others of what we need to do which is helping others. When we help others, we are serving our community. It is important because it starts a chain reaction within the community. If one person is helped then most likely that person will help another person, and the cycle will continue. This way we are building the kingdom of God. Giving back to the community builds a relationship between everyone within the community. If one donates canned foods to a food pantry, a person in need will benefits from that. We all have a call to service and God has given to us the necessary tools to help us with serving. When we service others and give back, we are serving God. In conclusion, service and giving back to the community, are important.
