The Feast of Pentecost ends the Easter Season. Before Jesus ascended into heaven He told the Apostles not to leave Jerusalem because the Holy Spirit would sound descend upon them. The mystical powers of the Holy Spirit remind us that Jesus promised to never leave us. Often we may feel alone in life, forgotten and in some sad cases abandoned by family and friends. Hopefully this will never happen to us, but the Holy Spirit will always be there to assist us with knowledge and inspiration in whatever life may throw at us.
Some theologians will tell you that the Catholic Church (which simply means Universal) began on Pentecost. Other theologians will tell you the Church began when Jesus gave Peter the keys to the kingdom and reigns of leadership, thus becoming the first Pope. Whatever the case, the structure of the Church was in place to help us in all of life’s challenges. We should never feel alone and thus help others to never feel alone by healing them understand what Jesus and the Holy Spirit told us. A comforting feeling when the storms of life make us feel lost and in need of direction.
